Shakespeare’s “Twelfth Night" is set in Illyria, the ancient name for a region that encompasses parts of modern-day Serbia, Slovenia, Bosnia, Albania, Croatia, and Montenegro. Settings from the play such as Duke Orsino’s palace are located west of the modern city of Dubrovnik. Despite the play’s location being known, the period in which “Twelfth Night” occurs is not as obvious.
