The Detroit Tigers' Comerica Park features a 420-foot distance to dead center — the longest in the league. Fenway Park — home of the Boston Red Sox — is the only other stadium with a 420-foot distance to home run territory, though in Boston, that spot is located farther towards right field.

Debuting during the 2022 MLS season, GEODIS Park — home of the Nashville SC — is the largest MLS stadium built exclusively for soccer, with a capacity of 30,000 spectators. Prior to its opening, Toronto FC's BMO Field was the largest, with room for a little over 28,000 fans. Atlanta United, Charlotte FC, and the Seattle Sounders all regularly draw over 30,000 fans per game, but those teams play in multi-use stadiums.

Though it’s no longer in use for competitive sports, Great Strahov Stadium in Prague, Czechia once held a whopping 250,000 spectators (though only 56,000 were seated). The venue was built for massive synchronized gymnastics displays in 1926. Over the years, the stadium also hosted concerts, including a Rolling Stones show in 1995 attended by 127,000 people.

Syracuse’s Carrier Dome deserves a special mention, as it’s where the university’s football team also plays. With room for more than 34,000 ticket holders, it easily trumps Kentucky’s Rupp Arena (capacity 23,000) for America’s largest basketball arena. It’s no surprise, then, that the Carrier Dome is nicknamed “the Loud House.”

The 90,000-seat Wembley Stadium is the largest sports venue in the United Kingdom and the second-largest stadium in all of Europe. Wembley is also home to a record-setting architectural feature: the world's longest single span roof support structure, existing in the form of a 436-foot-long arch that looms over the massive arena.

Twickers, or HQ, as supporters sometimes call it, is the home of England Rugby. Boasting a capacity of 82,000 people, the venue started as a humble London cabbage patch in 1907. In addition to hosting many international matches, the stadium also houses the Museum of Rugby, which tracks not only England's involvement but the history of the game worldwide.

With seating for 106,572 fans — about a thousand seats shy of Michigan Stadium — Penn State's Beaver Stadium is the second-largest stadium in the United States and the fourth-largest in the world. The stadium isn't actually named after an animal, but rather James A. Beaver, a lawyer who served in the Union Army during the Civil War.

Melbourne’s “G,” as the locals call it, was built in 1853 when the government planned a steam train track through the city’s former cricket stadium. Located in the Peruvian capital of Lima, Estadio Monumental is the largest stadium in South America, with a capacity of 80,093 people. Nicknamed the Monumental “U” for the Universitario de Deportes football club that calls it home, the stadium was built in 2000 at a cost of over $44 million. The continent’s second-largest stadium is Maracana Stadium in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

After Barcelona’s football club outgrew its old stadium, Les Corts, the team opened a newer, larger venue in 1957. Originally, the stadium was going to be called “Estadio del FC Barcelona,” but fans overwhelmingly referred to the venue as Camp Nou (Catalan for “New Ground”) to differentiate it from the old stadium. Today it can hold 99,354 spectators.

Located in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, Bukit Jalil National Stadium can accommodate around 87,000 spectators, earning it the distinction of being the largest stadium in Southeast Asia. The arena opened on September 11, 1996, and has hosted events such as the 1998 Commonwealth Games, as well as the 2001 and 2017 Southeast Asian Games.

During the 2010 FIFA World Cup, soccer fans could hear the dulcet droning of vuvuzelas (plastic horns) echoing within the walls of South Africa’s First National Bank Stadium, commonly known as Soccer City or “The Calabash” (a type of gourd used as a melting pot). Whatever you call it, the arena can hold over 94,000 people, making it the largest on the African continent.

Named for the international workers' holiday celebrated on the first of May, Rungrado May Day Stadium opened in 1989 in the North Korean capital of Pyongyang. The stadium has an official capacity of 150,000 people, which would make it the world’s largest stadium; however, independent sources estimate the actual number is closer to 114,000.

A holdover from its days as a British colony, cricket is the most popular sport in India, which is home to the world’s largest cricket arena. Originally named Motera Stadium when it was built in 1982, Narendra Modi Stadium was renamed for sitting Prime Minister Narendra Modi in 2020, when it was renovated and expanded to a capacity of 110,000 spectators.

"The Horseshoe" is the nickname of Ohio State University's football stadium which is located in Columbus, Ohio. The venue opened in 1922 with an inaugural game between the Ohio State Buckeyes and Ohio Wesleyan University Battling Bishops. It's now the third-largest stadium in the United States and the fifth-largest stadium in the world.

With an official capacity of over 21,000 spectators, Montreal's Bell Centre became the largest NHL arena upon its opening in 1996, surpassing the Toronto Maple Leafs' Scotiabank Arena (which has capacity for 19,800 fans). On the flip side, the Winnipeg Jets play in the smallest stadium in the NHL, with room for 15,300 spectators.

Named after the Mesoamerican empire that flourished in the region from 1345 to 1521, Estadio Azteca is Mexico’s largest stadium. With a capacity for 87,000 spectators, the arena is home to Mexico’s national football team. It has a reputation for being difficult for athletes: At its 7,200-foot elevation, the thin air is said to make balls move in unexpected ways for unsuspecting visiting teams.

Stadium Australia welcomed 114,714 people at the 2000 Sydney Olympics, which marked the largest stadium to host an Olympic event. Prior to 2000, the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum — which hosted the 1932 Summer Games — was the first Olympic park to hold over 100,000 fans. Greece's Panathenaic Stadium seated 80,000 during the inaugural modern Olympic games in 1896.

Dublin, Ireland's Croke Park holds 82,300 people, making it the third-largest stadium in Europe. The arena is home to Ireland's Gaelic Athletic Association and hosts traditional Irish sports like Gaelic football and hurling. In 1961, Croke Park welcomed a record 90,556 fans, who gathered to watch County Down play County Offaly in the All-Ireland Football Final.

Appropriately nicknamed “the Big House,” the University of Michigan’s stadium can pack in 107,601 Wolverine fans, making it the largest sports venue in the United States. In fact, America’s top 10 largest stadiums are all home to college football teams. The largest NFL stadium is MetLife Stadium, where the Giants and Jets play, and it holds a relatively paltry 82,500 fans.
