As of 2021, there are 1,155 places in 167 countries that are protected by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) for having cultural, historical, or other significance. Italy has the most sites, with 58, including the historic city centers of Rome and Florence, the Dolomites, the city of Verona, and the site of Leonardo da Vinci’s painting “The Last Supper”.
